Wouldn’t it be lekker to have a braai that’s built to last?

I’ll be honest: I’m not a fan of braaiing with wood.

It leaves you smelling less than lekker if the smoke keeps floating your way.

That’s one reason a gas braai is superior.

Not to mention the speed of a gas braai.

And the convenience.

Also, cost is an issue. Wood is expensive.

For those reasons, a gas braai makes plenty of sense.

Am I anti-wood braai?

Nooit!

Wood has its place, and if a braai chimney has been built correctly, it’s lekker to tan a tjoppie over wood.

But it’s often a case of, get the meat done ASAP, else you’ll end up smelling like bush.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how quickly you get the meat done, you end up smelling like bush in any case.

A gas braai eliminates the problem. You can stand over the thing and braai to your heart’s content, it doesn’t leave you smelling like a bush dweller.

But the problem is, gas braais aren’t built to last.

The term used by many manufacturers is “planned obsolescence.”

This methodology encourages people to get rid of their old, dated majigger, which is disgusting and obviously only good for social ostracization, and opt for the shiny, new, and faster majigger.

It’s the old keeping up with the Jones’ trick, dressed in a facade of common sense.

Sadly, this methodology seems to be adopted by braai manufacturers too.

Some braais look like an exercise in origami, not a machine to braai meat on. (If you’re vegetarian, chicken.)

This grates me. Almost enough to build a tough, stainless steel gas braai that’ll give you years of braaiing pleasure.

But I’m not there yet.

This whole thing is still in concept stage.

When it comes to building a braai that looks great, but performs even better, and is easy to clean, you need to spend a lot of time planning.

For that reason, EasyBraai is still in concept phase.

Hopefully I’ll come up with a smashing stainless steel braai to rule them all.

A braai you buy once and use for many years to come, not in the least stressed that you paid more, because you’re getting more braai for your buck.

While you wait for EasyBraai to come to life, sign up for the newsletter. I’ll let you know when the concept reaches production.
